Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K Rowling

Hey Girls!

My placement class just finished reading the novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, however they were not the ones reading it. Their teacher would read to the class when they had some free time. This reminded me of Winch, when it stated that children need to be read to, even if they are really good readers. So it was good to see that their teacher was reading to them when she could.

J.K Rowling is a fantasic writer, and her Harry Potter series has been a big success. My placement class are only year 3/4, however some of them would say to the teacher that they have already finished reading the novel by themselves. One of the good things about J.K Rowling are that her books challenge students, however they are not too hard and they are not too easy.

Rowling does a wonderful job in creating that imaginary world that her readers go on. Her writing is so detailed and clear that it is very hard not to get lost in the words. Throughout this novel she also follows a standard narrative structure, which would be ideal to use her has an example when writing a narrative in class.

Rowling also has an interactive website just for her Harry Potter fans. This could easily be accessed at school and it allows the students to explore the Harry Potter books in a new way.
