There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly by Pam Adams

Hi Girls!

I loved reading this book! It follows the There was an old Lady Nursery rhyme. This book is so engaging, it could be read to any children, young or old, because even I loved reading it.

Throughout the rhyme, each ending word sounds the same, for example :
There was an old lady who swallowed a fly
I don't know why she swallowed a fly- perhaps she'll die!

There is also two rhymes in one sentence, for example:
There was an old lady who swallowed a bird,
How absurd to swallow a bird.

The rhyme continues like so, which aids memory retention:
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
she swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly- perhaps she'll die!

This picture book is very powerful, as this type of nursery rhyme aids memory retention in children. Also when the story begins with there was an old lady.. This allows the reader to imagine an old lady and imagine all the things that she is eating in the story.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book, and it could also be read to the class, which I believe they will strongly enjoy.

Teresa.
