Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Tina Freeman

Hey Girls!

This childrens picture book is very easy for younger children to read and follow. The same pattern is repeated throughout the story, which makes it easy for children to predict what is going to happen next.

The story follows this type of structure:

Ten little monkeys jumping on the bed.
One fell off and broke his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
Each word at the end of the sentences all rhyme, while the first and last sentence both have only nine syllables. This is a very engaging book, as it allows the readers in engage with the book. If this book were to be read aloud to a classroom, of younger students, it would not matter if they could not read. As they would be abel to recongise the pattern and predict what is coming next.

The ending to this story is very predictable, therefore getting students to predict what they think is going to happen, may be another way to engage them, with the book.

Teresa.
