What is Maisy Doing? by Lucy Cousins

This book is aimed towards young children ages 2 to 3, therefore the story is very simplistic and easy to follow. To add to the interaction in the narrative, there are flaps which the reader can lift and connect the picture underneath the flap to the text that is written beside it.
The story is about what Maisy the mouse is doing during her day. She is getting ready for a party, something that many young children enjoy to do.
The suspense that Cousins creates with the lift up flaps intrigues the reader, and at such a young age the visual representation of the text is vital in understanding words.
This book would be a wonderful book to read to a small group of students, giving them time to guess what Maisy is doing before the flap is lifted. This guessing game aids in readers understanding of semantic information.
The character Maisy features in a series of books and the webpage My Friend Maisy allows teachers to resources that will aid them in developing learning experiences from the book.
